One of my team members asked me how to use Facebook Timeline the other day, so I thought I would do a quick post about it.
So is your fan page Timeline ready? – I mean do you know how to use Facebook Timeline to continue making leads and sales?
On 30th March Facebook went over to the new Facebook Timeline and the masses were saying this was the end of free marketing on Facebook because (incase you hadn’t noticed) you can’t direct new visitors on your Facebook fan page to a selected landing page any more.
Others have been saying that this is just a ploy by Facebook to get more revenue as you will have to resort to Facebook PPC (pay per click) advertising to drive traffic to your landing tabs and even when you’ve done that, you can only display 3 landing tabs!
Others still, have been saying that Facebook is becoming a place for large brands only and they are damaging the small marketer.
So what does it all mean for the small business marketer and how much of the whisperings and concerns are actually legitimate concerns?
How should we be using Facebook Timeline?
Well I don’t have all the answers, but I have been watching and listening for a while. Indeed I didn’t even go over to Facebook Timeline until the night before it became essential to do so, but here’s what I can tell you.
The top social media marketers who spend thousands of dollars on split testing and marketing on Facebook seem to love it. Brian Moran of “Get 10,000 Likes” (which actually turned into over 85,000 Likes!) reported a 52% increase in sales from the new Timeline layout, so what is the secret of how to use Facebook Timeline Fan pages to improve your optins and sales?
Is it learning how to get more likes for your Facebook page?
NO! – This is not what it’s all about.
It’s about story telling!
Yes, story telling is the way to sell or generate leads on your Facebook Timeline fan page.
Facebook Timeline is now separating out the good marketers from the bad because now you have to know how to get your fans or visitors over to your custom landing pages. And you do this through telling stories about your journey or the milestones in your business.
Firstly you need to choose a good cover image which is a LOT bigger than before, (minimum of 850 pixels x 315) but make sure you follow Facebook’s strict guidelines about what you can and can’t do – Click here to see the full Facebook Timeline fan page Guidelines
Then you will need to re-order your tabs (which are now called apps) and give your apps a bright and enticing picture with a clear call to action. You are allowed 12, but only 4 are on display and the first one is always photos, so you just need to re-order the next ones to showcase your welcome page or offer pages.
