7 MLM Tips to Avoid the Venus Fly Trap

I had a prospect contact me on facebook the other day saying that he was flat broke but he was with a network marketing business and needed some MLM tips to bring his business online.
He was contemplating joining MLSP and wanted my advice on this system and another couple of courses that he had been looking at.
The courses were all from reputable marketers that I knew he could trust.
He talked about how good the courses sounded and the results he could expect to achieve.
Then he talked about information overload and not knowing which way to turn. Sound familiar?
Why do we call it that? I saw Jim Yaghi go in to a rant about this one day on facebook and he’s right – there is no such thing as information overload, just our inability to process what we want and need to learn against “stuff” that is not appropriate for our requirements right now.
My mentor used to call this “shiny object syndrome” when you keep buying the latest thing that the so called “Gurus” are selling.
They are marketers and they are luring you in like a venus fly trap with their superbly crafted capture pages and sales pages disguised as MLM Tips! This is what they DO!
Now that’s not to say that many of the guru training courses aren’t absolutely awesome, BUT….. is it what’s going to help you RIGHT NOW?
If you are only just starting out and you are on a master marketers email list looking for MLM Tips and yet they are promoting a fantastic product that is going to show you some advanced strategies, do you think this is the right course for you right now?
NO!
So how do you avoid the Venus Fly trap in your MLM business?
MLM Tips 1
Get off everybody’s email list – unsubscribe (DON’T click the spam button when you subscribed to the information in the first place, nothing is more irritating than this to a professional marketer who is giving you valuable information)
MLM Tips 2
Time manage your day. If you are spending time browsing other people’s websites and signing up to their latest free giveaway you are being lured towards the Venus fly trap and you are not making best use of your time. Give yourself a daily action plan that limits your time on anything that can take you off track, like email, facebook and other social media sites. They are all essential aspects of marketing, but spend very little time on this unless it is going to be your primary focus of marketing for the next 90 days – see point 6.
MLM Tips 3
Find a source of information that you trust completely – this may take you some time and may be a mentor, a marketing system or a new company, so be sure to look around and don’t feel worried about picking up the phone, or emailing someone whom you think you want to work with.
MLM Tips 4
Tap into weekly or daily coaching material but only do the training that you will TAKE ACTION on straight away. Don’t ever think – I will come back to this and do it later…… it won’t happen!
MLM Tips 5
Take action every single day on your business, focus on the income producing activities and NOT on pretty websites and beautiful capture pages. “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going” is one of my favourite guru phrases. You can always come back and make your blog more beautiful later.
MLM Tips 6
Focus, focus focus on ONE marketing strategy and give it 90 days worth of TRUE effort. Be completely honest with yourself that you are doing this meticulously for 90 days because I promise you if you have learnt about it from a trusted source, applied it, tweaked it and done it consistently for 90 days YOU WILL SEE results.
MLM Tips 7
When you have seen some results using the one method of marketing you have been focusing on – train it on to your prospects and step up to become the leader.

These are awesome tips, Nicky. I used to feel overwhelmed by the amount of information that was coming at me when I subscribed to so-called guru’s lists. I eventually had to do what you suggested. I unsubscribed from all of them just so I could keep my sanity. Before I unsubscribed, I learned those who were offering pure value and also how to get a hold of them if I needed to in the future.

Subscribe to 1 or 2 lists tops. Want to succeed? Follow a leader, and do what they do. Follow means soaking up their knowledge, and putting it into action immediately, and it’s tough to soak up knowledge when following more than 1 or 2 lists.

Ohh – I used to be on so many lists and each one is offering trainings, webinars and when you actually attend some of them you realise that it was a complete waste of time and that i could have done better myself.

Ooohh weee – I couldn’t have written this any better. I call it a Feeding Frenzy, and you’re right – Pack away the credit card – The trainings you have are enough to get you started – Only purchase that which you need and can use in your business right now.
As for email purging – I like to do this at least once a month – you ‘ll be surprised at what you can do without.

Ohhh yes, “shiny object” syndrome is definitely a big, big problem and I see it so much with some of my team.
The thing is …. the marketing system we both use is completely sufficient for all the needs of a new marketer, so everything else should just be “parked” for now.

Hey Nicky! Well done…You have covered the bases here in the MLM business. I certainly agree not to subscribe to everything. You really can’t keep up with it all. Just stay on your path and do what needs to be done. I clean up my email once a month and have different categories for them. The rest goes away.

The last tip is one of the most important to me. I am always all over the place and sticking to one strategy was and sometimes still is the biggest obstacle I create for myself.

Yes I completely agree, I still have to stop myself doing that sometimes too! A disciplined mind is essential for working at home and avoiding all the distractions, switching off skype, only checking emails and facebook 3 times a day …….ooooh it’s hard, but I am so much more productive if I do!

These are excellent tips and the one that stuck out to me was Tip number one, unsubscribe from email list. I called many of my prospects, but yet the majority of them don’t remember opting into my site. But I advise them to opt out which would be helpful for me as well as them!

Beautiful Article Nicky and I must say,
I have opted into too many newsletters, lists what have you!!
and I am going to take your STEP1 and get rid of it all
and just focus on what has been working!!
I also put myself on a timer as Marisol suggested on our 100 day champion challenge last week and am giving myself 10 mins to open emails and 10 mins in the morning to facebook, until the afternoon!!
more time for $$$$ making activities….like getting on the Phone!!
