As more and more people are searching the internet and looking for a ‘Plan B” I have decided to list some small business marketing ideas that will enable local or home businesses feature along with the “Big Boys” on page one of the search engine rankings.
So why is this important when the search engines are global and maybe you are only interested in local business?
Well for starters it is a fact that 94% of businesses are now found using the internet and by learning some simple marketing strategies you would be able to promote your business in a way that is considerably cheaper (and probably a lot more effective) than newspaper adverts and get your business found locally.
So here’s my top 5 small business marketing ideas to getting your business found!
Small Business Marketing Ideas 1
Get yourself a web presence – a simple wordpress blog with a bright modern theme is all that is required and before you stop reading thinking it’s too hard – then please don’t be put off. It’s actually so much cheaper these days than in the old days when you had to hire programmers and web developers to create anything remotely good looking.

Once you have a web presence you want to be making sure that you are attracting people (traffic) to your website.
Create a Twitter, YouTube and Facebook account and post your blog article (about your business/products etc) to your accounts.
55% of your target prospect is now on Facebook. If Facebook were a country….it would be the second largest country on the planet which means if you want to get SEEN – then missing out on Facebook marketing would probably be a mistake.
With the incredible advertising targeting you have on Facebook, it is possible to narrow down the audience that sees your advert to people in your area, Mums, Dads, people earning over a certain income with interests that match your product. Facebook is one still one of the most powerful advertising strategies right now and if you’d like to learn more about how to do that then you can grab some free training here .

Does your product or service go hand in hand with a similar local business that you know and like? If so, consider exchanging website links and promoting their site on yours and yours on theirs.
You can even do testimonials for each other.
If you have a website with an offer, and you are building a list of subscribers, then you could easily do a “newsletter swap” – i.e you send out content to another local business and they use your list to send out theirs.
Small Business Marketing Ideas 4
Ensure that you list your business with sites such as Google places for business, and Bing places for business https://www.bingplaces.com/ ensuring you leave your website details. Also make sure that you add your website details to every single piece of correspondence you do with a strapline designed to pique people’s curiosity.
Building your local business pages and getting REVIEWS is extremely important in 2017.
80% of your prospective customers or clients will check out any sort of service online either through social media or their website prior to going there for the first time. 88% of those people are heavily influenced by reviews from other people
If your business is brand new – ask your family or close friends to add something to their emails about your new business and be sure to ask them for recommendations and referrals. You could even ask your local newspaper store to add a flyer in their deliveries about your business with your website details and the promise of a free gift or discount.

Have an opt-in form on your website so that you can build a client list of people who are genuinely interested in your products. An opt-in form is simply a form where someone will leave their email address in exchange for something of yours that they want. You can decide what the enticement could be – could it be a free report on something, or maybe a tester product, or a money off voucher? You can get creative here.
Once you have their email addresses you can use a simple Auto-responder mailing service like Aweber to send out either a series of automated emails or an email blast to notify them of special offers. (You can create the opt-in form on the emailing system too – it’s very simple to do).
Okay so I hope my 5 small business marketing ideas has given you something to think about. You see your blog is your own prime piece of advertising space and by learning some simple marketing strategies to get people over to your website, it is actually very easy to rank your website on the front page of the search engines.
